Jackal works with the current file, an optional selection, and a bounded amount of conversation context. It can return a proposed LaTeX change that you inspect as a diff before anything is applied.

The ordinary editor remains available when AI is unavailable. You can still organise files, compile with shell escape disabled, read the compiler log, preview the PDF, and restore saved revisions.

Jackal is an assistive proposal tool, not a LaTeX verifier or a substitute for checking facts. Provider availability and configured limits can temporarily prevent a response, and a proposed repair can still need manual correction. Compilation remains the authoritative check.
